Alessandro Gentile is Olimpia’s new captain. The nominee is in some ways an historical one because Alessandro Gentile is the youngest captain in the club history, a record which belonged to Riccardo Pittis who was named captain in 1990 when he still had to turn 22 but he’s been beaten by 11 months. It’s and historical move also because it’s the first time in the club history that the captain in the son of another former captain. Nando Gentile was the team’s captain from 1994 to 1998 and during his reign Olimpia won both the Italy Cup and the Italian championship in 1996. It’s very likely that Gentile will also be the youngest Serie A and Euroleague youngest captain at 20 years and 10 months of age. Gentile came to Olimpia during the month of December in 2011 and has already surpassed the 1000-point threshold with the team. This year he elected to play with the same number 5 made famous by his father. Here the Olimpia’s captains history.
