Olimpia’s furious comeback from a 19-point deficit stopped in the last thirty seconds of the game, when Edgars Ulanovas made a huge three that won the game for Zalgiris, 66-61. Olimpia struggled with shooting most of the night and Zalgiris grew the margin throughout the night. “For some reasons, ou reality is this: if three-four players are not providing help we are not capable to win a game at this level,” Coach Ettore Messina remarked at the end. The fourth quarter was when Olimpia tried to come back, erected a wall defensively, anchored by Kyle Hines, and offensively Billy Baron and Devon Hall shook the rust and made some three. For almost six minutes, Zalgiris didn’t score and the margin was reduced to six points. This is when a ridiculous possession with five missed shots rebounded by Zalgiris allowed Kaunas to regain some rhythm. Olimpia never gave up and Billy Baron with a terrific three almost completed the comeback. Then Ulanovas happened. “I’m happy for the comeback, for the positive signs coming from Stefano Tonut, who finally broke the ice this season, and Pippo Ricci was solid again. Kyle Hines was a leader in the fourth quarter and this is an example we have to follow,” Messina added. On another note, Kevin Pangos’ return from his injury will have to wait more than expected. “Now we have a clear picture of what is awaiting us for the next couple of months, obviously we are looking at potential opportunities.”
