Shavon Shields came up big at the end as leaders do. Olimpia led for the majority of the game and the entire second half by as many as 13 points late in the third quarter after Pippo Ricci from the left corner and Stefano Tonut from the right one made back-to-back three. However, Sassari played with amazing courage and determination and used theee-point shooting to mount an impressive comeback. Sokolowski made two long-range jumper and Veronesi added one. After refusing to surrender, Sassari room the lead unexepctedly with three minutes left. Enter Shavon Shields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming off a very demanding week, a little bit short of energy, he had two points up to that Moment, the Captain made a huge three with 2:30 remaining in the game. Just like in Kaunas, Olimpia trailed for one possession only in the second half. Shields, who converted a Fabien Causeur drive and kick move, regained the lead for good. Over the last couple of minutes, Olimpia finished tha game with a mid-range jumper by Neno Dimitrijevic, who led the scorers with 15 points, and one more Shields field goal on a drive. Olimpia finished the game with four perimeter players. Zach LeDay closed the game out from the line. The final score was 78-72.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWe were coming off a very demanding week with three games over five days and long tripla in the middle. The players who led the team in Kaunas struggled tonight. I mean LeDay, Mannion and Shields. We had some of the other guys stepping up big. Dimitrijevic was huge, Gillespie raised our defensive execution level once again, and we got Causeur back. We stuttered in the beginning but then we moved the ball and we improved defensively. Sassari played a courageous game. In the end Shields came up big. And this is an important win given the circumstances,\u201d Coach Ettore Messina said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
