Olimpia took the game in the second period when the defense held Trento to six points and the margin blossomed up to 16 points at the half. The rest was history in a 80-57 triumph in the Italian Cup quarterfinals<\/strong>. “Defense and easy transition field goals allowed us to take a good lead and to not being slaved of our shooting percentages,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Olimpia was 6-for-24 on threes but late in the first period took the lead for good and the biggest margin was 30 points several times in the third quarter. Johannes Voigtmann and Shavon Shields scored 14 points each, Shabazz Napier was instrumental in the second period when he gained seven free throws and made six. Nicol\u00f2 Melli led the rebounding effort with seven. Kyle Hines did a great job in the first half when he scored three field goals, was everywhere defensively and set the tone for everybody. “We had a good approach – Messina said – We have a lot of respect for Trento and what they did to come here. We defeated them earlier in the season but it was a hard battle. So, we came in ready to play a tough game, but we did a great job on their scoring guards who normally are very effective both on isos and pick and roll plays.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
