Luca Banchi’s big season continues. Olimpia’s coach was the second-most voted by his colleagues coaches in the “Coach Of The Year” award won by David Blatt who led Maccabi Tel-Aviv to the championship and has since moved on to become head coach of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Real Madrid’s Pablo Laso finished third. Tha award is named after the Great Alexander Golmelsky, the former coach of the USSR National Team and CSKA Moscow.<\/p>\n

For the Olimpia’s coach its was another success of a memorable season: he won the Italian League in Milano, the first to do so as a first-year coach and has been the second coach ever to win two consecutive Italian Leagues with two different teams. Under his wing, Olimpia won 21 consecutive league games, 19 consecutive home league games and in Euroleague Olimpia reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 1997 and won a club-record 8 straight games in the Top 16.
