Pallacanestro Olimpia EA7 – Emporio Armani Milano agreed on terms with forward Simone Fontecchio, 2.03, born on December 9, 1995 in Pescara, coming from Virtus Bologna.
WHO’S FONTECCHIO – In spite of his young age, Simone Fontecchio is a 4-year veteran of the Italian league with 40 starts during the last two seasons, all spent in Virtus Bologna, the club that acquired him from Pescara. Two years ago, Fontecchio averaged 7.4 points per game in 24.5 minutes. He was named best young player of the league. During the season, twice he made the winning three-pointer for his team, in Pistoia and at home against Avellino. The last season, he averaged 9.2 points and 3.5 rebounds while converting 32.8% of his three-pointers and 83.8% of his free throws. He had also 1.9 assists per game in 27.5 minutes.
NOTES – Fontecchio is the son of former Italian Women National Team, Malì Pomilio who also won two Euroleagues with Vicenza. His father is Daniele Fontecchio, who was a world-class hurdler in the eighties. His brother is Luca Fontecchio, who’s a basketball player too. Simone participated in the Jordan Classic in 2011 and played five European championships for young players. At the Under 18 Europeans in 2013 he averaged 15.8 points per game with 4.9 rebounds. At the 2015 Under 20 Eurochampionship he averaged 10.6 points per game and 3.9 boards.
