The EuroLeague playoff series will go to the distance and will be decided in a do-or-die Game 5 on Tuesday night in Milan. Bayern prevailed in a tough game 85-82 coming from behind. Olimpia controlled the game since early in the second period, led by as many as 13 points, but failed to close it out in the fourth. Bayern rode Paul Zipser hot shooting to come back and take the lead with three minutes left. Olimpia fixed the defense late and tied the game up again with Shavon Shields and took the lead once more on a Malcolm Delaney’s drive (he scored 28 points). With 23 seconds left on a break Lucic completed the three-point play that proved to be decisive. On the ensuing offensive possession, Shields drove through the lane and got the foul with eight seconds left. The referees went to the monitor and overruled the call. It became an offensive foul. Lucic made two free throws with eight seconds remaining. Down by three Olimpia executed well, building a three-point attempt for Datome from the right corner but with no room. The series will go down to Game 5. “Congratulations to Bayern – Coach Ettore Messina said -, they kept believing and it looked like they got back what they gave us in Milano in the first game, very similar. Like we fought in that game against all the odds in a bad moment, Bayern did the same tonight. When everything looked like it wasn’t working they kept believing and playing hard, and we had two negative things in the game: we turned the ball over too much, and most of the turnovers were live balls that gave them a fastbreak; and the second thing was that we fouled shooters too many times, which was not smart. We have to control these things, turnovers and fouling, because you cannot control the shooting percentage – that goes up and down. Now we go to Game 5 and see who is better in that game.”
