Trento succeeded in dictating the kind of game it wanted to play and won game 3 of the Italian League finals 72-65. It was a physical game, that allowed for many contacts, with flagrant fouls called and 40 free throws shot. Unfortunately the difference in free throws attempts was huge in Trento’s favor, 30 to 10. Trento made only one field goal in the entire fourth quarter but was able to keep the lead by going to the line 16 times. Olimpia started the game well but was plagued by foul troubles. Andrew Goudelock was called for two quick fouls, Dairis Bertans and Kaleb Tarczewski were disqualified with five fouls but more frustating was one stat at the halftime. Olimpia didn’t shoot a single free throw in the first half while Trento never got into the penalty. “They applied great pressure on the perimeter but because of that we were able to attack the lane with dribble drives. Whatever the reasons we couldn’t go to the line. I said after game 2 that the game was going to be very different in Trento, and that’s the outcome. 30 free throws to 10. Certainly it wasn’t a game that explained why one team didn’t go to the line once in the first twenty minutes”, Coach Pianigiani said. Of course, Olimpia’s game was far from being perfect. There were too many turnovers and too many offensive reoubounds allowed. “From our part we can eliminate some turnovers, grab some rebounds even when we can’t play basketball but something else and keep our poise because as a matter of fact we were down only by four at the half and we had more opportunities in the fourth quarter. We let the kind of game that was allowed to get under our collective skins. That’s our mistake. Early in the third we didn’t perform well enough. We have to start from this, improve and adjust to whatever game it’s allowed to play, beginning from Game 4”, Pianigiani added.
