The Italian League starts on a bad note for Olimpia, whose comeback came up short in Trento. The team didn’t have the energy to really compete, was slow defensively, had 20 turnovers, allowed too many second chances to Trento and the shooting percentages were bad. Jamel McLean had a 22-point 10-rebound game and Alessandro Gentile carried the team in the fourth quarter but too many players stayed well below their regular abilities and Trento, shooting 16/21 from two in the second and third quarters combined, took advantage of it. The late comeback was in fact late. Trento won 80-73. “I expected a tough game because I knew they were ready to play and I also anticipated our problems for a thousand reasons – Coach Jasmin Repesa said – but at the same time we are not looking for excuses. I demanded patience from the fans and recommended to the team to keep staying focused and to keep working hard. We need to close ourselves in the gym and we’ll do just that after the Varese game on Sunday. But I complain because te assistant coaches prepared the game well and said to limit turnovers, limit offensive rebounds and be aware of their fastbreak and we didn’t do none of those things”.
