“The New Old Boys” is the new documentary of the “Insider” series that Euroleague Basketball is about to be released and has been dedicated to Olimpia Milano. 45-minute long, created by Diego Dorado and Xuban Intxausti, the documentary will be available starting on March 30th. The documentary follows the events of Olimpia during this EuroLeague season, focusing its attention mostly on two significant games, the one played at home against Real Madrid and the one Olimpia won in Tel Aviv against Maccabi. The two games are linked by an episode: Malcolm Delaney’s ankle injury after a few minutes of the Real Madrid game made Sergio Rodriguez’s heroic performance mandatory. His eventual recovery led to another epic moment when he made the winning shot at the end of the overtime in Tel Aviv. It was the first Olimpia win in Tel Aviv in 33 years. The common thread of the story is the one that links this year’s team to that of the “back-to-back” of 1987 and 1988: although not comparable, both of these teams were built around legendary players. Bob McAdoo, Dino Meneghin, Mike D’Antoni and Roberto Premier as well as coaches Dan Peterson and Franco Casalini talked about their team during the filming.

The initial shooting for this documentary took place in September in Kaunas, during the EuroLeague preseason tournament. Then in addition to following the team in the two indicated games, Dorado and Intxausti returned repeatedly to Milan to realize several additional interviews and behind the scenes shooting. “On the one hand it was a hard experience to work and travel in times of pandemic, but it was also very rewarding to meet and interview, albeit via video call, legends of European basketball history such as Dan, Dino, Bob and Mike. But the club and the players made our job as easy as possible,” Diego Dorado said.
