It was another close game and Olimpia lost it at the end. Nemanja Nedovic, playing with a restriction in terms of playing time, made the three to put Milan up by four with a little more than a minute remaining in the game. But Bayern closed it strong. After a time-out Barthel made an easy lay-up and Derrick Williams converted a crucial three-point play. Olimpia had a couple of open threes in the last minute but missed both and Mike James’ driving lay-up to force the overtime was not good. Bayern won 80-78 in a close battle with no team leading by more than six points. Derrick Williams scored 21 points and made some difficult shots that allowed Bayern to stay efficient offensively. Olimpia had an up-and-down game, with promising spurts (two threes by Curtis Jerrells in the first, for example, or the start of the third quarter and again at the end when a six-point deficit became a four-point lead). “It was a solid game, not a bad one, and in the end the details made the difference – Coach Simone Pianigiani said -. We missed a couple of open shots, we missed a lay-up, a long rebound became a three-point play. It’s tough, but our players left everything on the court and I’m frustrated only because they are doing a great job every day and deserved better. But we are pretty much with everybody else in the standing. The moment is tough with two road games ahead but we need to keep working because we are going to improve. Right now we are a little off because with Nedovic back we have more options but our style of play has changed again. And he’s playing under a restriction of minutes. Against Derrick Williams we did a good job but he made a couple of extremely tough shots. We attacked him at the other end to force him on the bench more so he played less than 25 minutes but was very effective. He’s a great player. But again we were up by four with 50 seconds to play, we created good shots but didn’t deliver and that cost us the game”
