Olimpia’s trademark defense worked only in the second half, the offense execution was poor and so the five-game winning streak was halted by Fenerbahce, 71-60 in Milan. “From tip-of to the last possession, it was a poor game on our part, we deserved the outcome,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Obviously playing without Shavon Shields and Dinos Mitoglou, Olimpia struggled to score and to be fluid offensively. “Our passing was not where it should have been,” Messina pointed out. Fenerbahce built a commanding 16-point lead in the second quarter, when Olimpia gradually got in the game. At the half, it was down by nine, then jumped all over the place with a 9-0 run to start the third period. All of a sudden the game was tied. But Fenerbahce offensive rebounds won the game for the Istanbul team because made the great defensive work irrelavant on some possessions and kept Olimpia from taking control of the game, especially when the shooting percentages went down dramatically in the fourth quarter. For Olimpia it was the third home loss of the season. “We’ll try to make up for it during the next road games,” Messina said.
