Over the coure of the season in which he became the all-time leader for offensive rebounds and two-point field goals made, in which he surpassed 3.000 points scored and 1.500 rebounds grabbed, Kyle Hines was also named the EuroLeague’s Defensive Player of the Year. This is the third time it gets the award. Hines – who is a member of the All-Decade  team from 2010 to 2020 – was chosen by the coaches as the best defensive player of the competition both in 2016 and 2018. The hat-trick comes at 36 years of age after an exceptional season in which he played 36 out of 36 games with 21 starts and 856 minutes spent on the court, the second most of his career after the 973 minutes of last season with four more appearances. He also shot 62.7 percent from two-point range. Hines anchored the best defense of the entire EuroLeague, with his ability to form a one-two punch with Nicolò Melli, switching on all the screens and protecting the rim, the most evident aspect of his defensive impact. Some of his blocks, the category in which he is the number 2 ever behind Bryant Dunston, made the history of the season. For example, the one against Shaquielle McKissic of Olympiacos or to block Nigel Hayes’ of Barcelona dunk attempt.
