Shavon Shields opened the game in Treviso making the first five three-point attempts, then added a close-range shot and finished the inaugural period with 17 points. He set the tone early and in the fourth quarter he added one more three when Treviso came back within nine. Olimpia defeated Treviso 89-79, led for the entire game essentially, after the first quarter, never by less than eight points. Shields finished with 26. He was simply on fire. “We had a consistent game, we pushed them back every time they attempted to come back. Our defense on their guards who are great at creating plays was crucial,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Olimpia elected to lay without Ousmane Diop, so Freddie Gillespie was the only pure center on the roster; Neno Dimitrijevic was out too, but Diego Flaccadori replaced him with a solid performance. “He looked like he did during the last playoffs,” Messina remarked. He started the game applying big-time pressure on Treviso’s point guard Bruno Mascolo and then he scored too. In the second half, he completed a four-point play. He was all around the floor. Treviso was not an easy out, because coming off five wins over a six-game stint, they played with a lot of confidence. They attacked the offensive boards, they made defensive plays and Ky Bowman was a nightmare. he had 27 points and for three quarter he was almost unguardable, making contested jump shots one after the other. In the end, fatigue took a toll and Olimpia kept control, shooting over 64 percent on twos, almost 45 percent on threes, going 10-for-10 from the line as a team.
