Just like he did against CSKA Moscow in the opener, Shavon Shields in Vitoria struggled to score in the first half but came up big in the second half when he amassed nine of his 12 points (a three-point play had been the first play of the game). But more than his points (29 over two games, he has scored in double digit in 20 of his last 21 appearances), Shields is giving a lot to the team in terms of rebounding. He grabbed 10 in Vitoria, just one shy of his career high of 11 (Vs Maccabi last season), but his average of 8.5 rebounds per game is an incredible pace, maybe even unsustainable over a longer stretch of games. Right now, he’s third overall in rebounds per game. “Vitoria is a really tough team. They play well and were taking away what we like to do but I think everybody contributed tonight, which was good. This is a tough place to play, a tough place to win, but we got the job done,” he said at the end. Shields completed a week when he had to face both his last two teams. Trento and Baskonia, an emotionally tough week. “The ovation they gave me after the game was amazing. I am really grateful for the love that they showed me. I really loved my time here. We ended with a championship, so I think I brought something pretty nice to the city, I was a part of something, so I appreciate my time here and I look back on it, it was really fun.” Over the first two games, Shields has played 56:42 minutes, first on the team ahead of Devon Hall. The double double game in Vitoria has been the second he has had for Olimpia and the third overall. He had one last season in Tel Aviv and one more during the 2018/19 season with Baskonia in a game against Zalgiris.
