Another record for Shavon Shields: during the game against Dubai in Milan, he became the first player in Olimpia history to score over 2,000 points in EuroLeague games. Shields has been the club’s all-time leading scorer for nearly two years now, and he’s rewriting the record books for the club. In the EuroLeague, he leads the team in two-point field goals, three-point field goals, and free throws made; he’s second in assists behind Sergio Rodriguez; he’s on pace to overtake Nicolò Melli in steals; and he’s third in appearances, five games behind Kaleb Tarczewski.
This is Shavon Shields’s eighth season in the EuroLeague, his sixth with Olimpia after the first two in Vitoria, where he scored 579 points. He scored the other 2,000 or so with Olimpia. In the club’s history, no foreign player has spent six full seasons with the red and whites, with the exception of Mike D’Antoni, who reached seven before continuing the streak as a naturalized Italian. Five players have scored at least 1,000 points with Olimpia in the top international competition, but only Shields has surpassed 2,000.

In terms of scoring average, the all-time record holder is Bill Bradley, who in the 1965/66 season scored 26.5 points per game, but over the span of 12 games played, only. More significant, then, are Bob McAdoo’s 25.8 points per game (he scored 1,484 points in European competition, adding to his three seasons in the Euroleague, the one he played in 1988/89 in the Korac Cup, for a total average of 25.1 points per outing). Steve Chubin, Antonella Riva, and Russ Schoene are the other Olimpia players who—regardless of how many seasons they played in—averaged above 20 points per game.
