Sergio Rodriguez, during the last round, in the win over Valencia, climbed on the ideal podium of the best passers in the history of the EuroLeague. El Chacho had started the season in the All-Time fifth position, then climbed over Milos Teodosic and finally over Thomas Heurtel. The Frenchman of Barcelona has not yet been able to play this year because of an injury, so the duel continues. But Rodriguez has the opportunity of also surpassing the second-best player in the current list, Dimitris Diamantidis. At this time, the difference is 76 assists. The Olimpia point guard would reach him with an average of 4.5 assists per game between now and the end of the regular season, a pace slower than the current one. At the top of the list, Vassilis Spanoulis, is virtually unreachable because of the gap (almost 300 assists) and because he is still playing.

Behind Rodriguez and Heurtel, there is another very dangerous client, Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos who is 43 assists behind Sergio, but has the EuroLeague highest average, 5.74 assists per game. Calathes has played 198 EuroLeague games to date. Heurtel has the highest ratio of assist-to-minutes, with 9.44 assists every 40 minutes on the court. Stefan Jovic, from Khimki, has a 9.00 ratio. Then over 8.00 every 40 minutes on the court, there are Quino Colom (Valencia), Facundo Campazzo (Real Madrid), Nick Calathes and Sergio Rodriguez himself.

El Chacho has an average of 4.73 assists per game during his career, higher than those of Spanoulis and Diamantidis, and he dishes 8.62 assists every 40 minutes on the court. He basically has the same average as Teodosic, currently sixth, but with one more assist on average every 40 minutes. Sergio Llull is another active player in the current EuroLeague: he is in seventh place, but at least for this year he is unlikely to improve his position.

Rodriguez’s record for assists in one game is 13: it was set in 2016 when he played for Real Madrid. The opponent was Barcelona. This year he had 11 assists against Maccabi, one less than the club record that belongs with 12 to Mike James and Omar Cook.
