Coach Simone Pianigiani became last night the most winningest coach in the Italian league playoffs by getting his career win number 67. Carlo Recalcati is second with 66 wins, Ettore Messina follows in third place with 62. “It’s an honor especially because I’m associated with a great personality like Recalcati who was also my head coach early in my career”, Coach Pianigiani said. “The game that we played was excellent. After a couple of early mistakes when we let their shooters shoot uncontested jumpers and we had a couple of turnovers, we set the tempo, moved the ball, attacked their top defense where we could exploit a couple of situation. Stay in the lead throughout the game is never easy against Trento because their talent and organization. We did a great job and I’m happy because late in the game we were extremely good at both ends of the floor. Offensively, with Trento within three, we made the right choices, attacking the rim with Jerrells, using the high-post with Gudaitis and we exploited a mismatch down low with Micov over Forray. But we still have to do our real job. So far we have been good but in order to win the series we need to win on the road. We have to do a lot of things better, including eliminating some of their points by lowering the number of turnovers and attacking the rim more and better in order to draw fouls and build easy points from the line since they are consistently going into penalty much later than we do”.
