Olimpia struggled again, couldn’t find any rhythm and lost 90-82 to a very inspired and effective Pesaro team. Ray McCallum and Scott Bamforth combined for 16 assists, more than the whole Olimpia team did. “It was a poor performance and I have to apologize to everybody – Coach Ettore Messina said – We were mediocre from a character point of view. When you play the game you should play with some fire. We didn’t have it and it is worrisome because these kind of signals are not going away. This is why, with all the respect for Pesaro’s game, we allowed 90 points on our home court. And why in Berlin we let our opponent to get its rebounds above our heads with no blink.”
Olimpia started the game poorly, went down by ten points and began to make some moves late in the second quarter with Maodo Lo, who had 14 points in the first half, a three by Giordano Bortolani and a steal by Tonut. Olimpia turned the game around going to the intermission up 45-42. Early in the third quarter it built a eight-point lead after a Nikola Mirotic three. It looked like an opportunity to take definitive control on the game. Instead from that point on, Pesaro regained momentum, came back and got away winning by eight, a 16-point swing.
“On top of everything we had this necessity of resting some players. That was my choice, my fault. I won’t make this mistake again. I guessed that four national team players and all the other foreigners we had would have been enough to play and win this game. Obviously, that was not the case,” he added with some frustrations.
