It was one of those nights. Olimpia approached the game the right way, took control in the second quarter and gradually built a huge lead that was able to maintain late in the game when Jimmer Fredette used his entire arsenal of jump-shots and floaters on his way to score 28 while forcing Olimpia to play through the end. It was a great night: Olimpia won 96-87, kept Nick Calathes at 1-for-10 from the field, tied the tough rebounding battle and was full of energy at both ends of the floor. Sergio Rodriguez scored 22 points, made some clutch baskets, but this win was possible because of the help coming from different guys. Keifer Sykes, who score 17 points off the bench, Riccardo Moraschini who was the first to give the team a lift with a 10-point first half and finally Paul Biligha, who played some minutes at the power forward position and changed the inside battle for the best, securing second chances and protecting the rim. The Biligha’s game was instrumental since Kaleb Tarczewski and Arturas Gudaitis struggled with foul trouble all night, forcing Coach Messina to go deep into the bench to find a solution. And he did. “Tonight was a great night – he said, at the end – the atmosphere was unbelievable and the guys responded, everybody contributed. It was a difficult game, against the most productive EuroLeague offense entering into the game, a team that was able to win against CSKA on the road last week. Sykes showed that he can help this team, Biligha played two positions and obviously Moraschini cannot play every game like he did today, but he can be a little more consistent. If we can do that, we are going to be more consistent and the pieces will fall into place.”
