Olimpia lost at home for the first time against a red-hot team. Olympiacos was on fire since the very first possession, made seven threes in the first period alone, 12 at the half with 16 attempts, couldn’t miss a long shot and cruised to a commanding 93-72 win. Olimpia made a monumental effort to come back from 14 behind to tie the score early in the second period, despite the demoralizing shooting display of the opponent. But it couldn’t last, because after a 30-point first period, Olympiacos had another 30-point gem in the second and built a 15-point lead. Olimpia tried hard, defended better in the second half but it was too far behind to stage an improbable comeback. “We didn’t present the defensive organization required for this kind of game and when this happens the primary responsibility fall to the head coach. We’ll work to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Coach Ettore Messina said at the end. Shavon Shields led Olimpia with a 26-point effort, Malcolm Delaney returned after a six-game absence and made a good job. “What we can do at this time is to find a way to strengthen the bigs department because Dinos Mitoglou is going to be out for a while. This is something we need otherwise the same players are staying on the court all the time, the minutes are getting too many and the quality is going down,” Messina pointed out. Olympiacos however had a tremendous game, “the way they bounced back after losing on Monday against Panathinaikos is amazing,” Messina closed.
