Olimpia switched the engine in the middle of a brutal third quarter when Bayern took a commanding 20-point lead. The defense became a wall, the shooter found their rhythm, especially when Coach Ettore Messina implemented a smallball lineup featuring three guards and Vlado Micov at the 4. Olimpia gradually cameback to win 79-78. Bayern answered in spurts, took another late four-point lead that Micov promptly erased. Off a Michael Roll steal, on the break, Sergio Rodriguez – who had 10 assists – made the perfect alley-oop pass to Kaleb Tarczewski for the go-ahead the dunk. The last 30 seconds were turned into a free-throw shooting contest. Bayern tied the game once, but Olimpia was better. With six seconds left, Nemanja Nedovic made the winning foul shot and then was the quickest to get the hands on the ball after he misses. That was the win. “I’m thankful to our crowd for the support, when we went through a very difficult moment – Coach Messina said – We started the game soft, you cannot expect to win when you allowed 45 points in the first half. I was looking for a reaction, and I had it late in the game. We had the reaction and also the win. When you win on a comeback it’s alway important.”
