Three great quarters were not enough. Olimpia led by as many as 13 points in the second half, entered into the fourth quarter up by 12 but then the defense collapsed and the offense stagnated. So, Red Star gained momentum and rode it to the end in a devastating fourth period, which Olimpia lost 34-14. As a result, Red Star won 104-96. Olimpia scored 82 points over three periods, despite Zach LeDay scoring only in the third quarter (eight points) and Armoni Brooks struggling to overcome the enormous defensive pressure applied by Red Star especially Nikola Kalinic (he finished with 10 points, went 2-for-7 on threes). Shavon Shields was at his best, Marko Guduric was great at reading situations, Leandro Bolmaro made a couple of huge threes, Josh Nebo was a presence in the middle in the first half. But here and there some silly mistakes kept Red Star in contention and in the fourth quarter when the defensive pressure was raised Olimpia didn’t have patience, panicked a little bit and attempted to respond with its offense. After the first second half lead by Red Star on a Jared Butler field goal, Armoni Brooks replied with a huge three and then Shields responded with five straight points. But the defense couldn’t keep Red Star from scoring. Shields on top of that was affected by foul trouble all night long. He had two early and in the end played just 17 minutes, enough to allow him to score 22 points but his presence was badly needed down the stretch.
