Olimpia won the Italian Supercup for the first time. It’s the third straight win in Italian competition. In the final it basically took control from the tip-off and cruised to a very convincing 90-72 triumph over Avellino. Kruno Simon scored 23 points but more than that he was like a surgeon picking up Avellino’s defense. He was unanimous MVP. Olimpiad had a lot from a lot of players in spite of playing without Miro Raduljica (sprained ankle) against the Avellino’s towers, the seven-footers Kyrylo Fesenko and Marco Cusin. What was a size disadvantage became a quickness advantage that Olimpia used very well, with its transiton, ball movement and switching defense. Alessandro Gentile was not supposed to play because of back spams that stopped him during the morning walk-through. He showed up at the arena two hourse before tip-off and asked to try. He decided he was ready to go. He sacrificed himself playing tough defense and putting his talent to the team’s goodness. Olimpia had simply an outstanding game considering the circumstances and the time of the season.
