It was the fifth attempt to win on the road and Olimpia delivered in Zagreb. But the 85-82 win is not enough to stay alive in the Top 16 race. Cedevita lost but advanced. EA7 played without the 20 points per game provided by Euroleague’s to scorer Alessandro Gentile but played a very intense game, executed perfectly, scored 85 points but struggled in keeping the same defensive efficiency in the second half. After holding Cedevita to 31 points in a beutiful first half, it allowed Zagreb to score 51 in the second. “That’s our problem, it was the same story in Piraeus”, Coach Jasmin Repesa said at the end. Olimpia was short-handed again, because Milan Macvan is still not in top shape and couldn’t play big minutes. Moreover, foul trouble dictated the rotation. Oliver Lafayette and Kruno Simon had three fouls in the first half. Still, Olimpia led by as many as 16 points in the second period, went to the locker room up by 14 and basically played a great game. Only, the great game wasn’t enough in a night a simple win didn’t mean nothing. The game was affected with 47 seconds left by a two-point basket made by Charles Jenkins and was ruled out by Ukrainian referee Boris Ryzhyk after looking at the video-replay. Unfortunately the decision, after many more checks, looks like the wrong one. The Jenkins’ field goal was going to bring Olimpia up by nine with 47 seconds left. It’d have been a different story. But Cedevita advanced and did so deservedly.
