It was a message and it was loud and clear. Olimpia is here to compete, fight and won’t back down easily. The win in Athens against Panathinaikos completes the Athens’ sweep, 86-83 after leading pretty much for the length of the game that Milan had in control since starting the the second quarter with a 10-0 run. Nedovic was instrumental in keeping the lead at the half (47-40) then Olimpia had a terrific defensive third quarter and again exploded in the fourth when Vlado Micov with a runner and Mike James with his customary step-back three increased the margin to 10 late in the game. Panathinaikos went all-out in the last two minutes and reduced the lead to one with 6.6 seconds left. Nedovic made two free throws and Olimpia protected the lead. Arturas Gudaitis had a terrific game, scoring 20 points (tying his career-high) and dominating inside, but many players contributed including Curtis Jerrells who was in his best wild-card player impersonation, on his way to score 15 points. “We led pretty much the entire game and we deserved the win – Coach Simone Pianigiani said – Here in Athens is never easy and we were able to survive their final assault”.
