Olimpia controlled the game right from the beginning in Pistoia, prevailing 91-81. The locals were very good at keeping the game alive, trying repeatedly to mount comebacks that came out to be short. Olimpia used different lineups and rotations since the absence of Gudaitis, Tarczewski, Nedovic, Micov and the unavailability of Christian Burns, affected the roster. Coach Pianigiani had to use Omic and Brooks at center, Kuzminskas and Fontecchio at the 4-spot. Mike James scored 17 points, made a lot of great plays down the stretch, and added seven assists. Kuzminskas and Della Valle added 14 points. “Our approach was serious – Coach Pianigiani said at the end -, but we made some superficial decisions, like taking the first three-point shot abailable, rater than attacking the paint where we have been very effective early in the game. It’s important to read situations better since this was basically the first game with a new type of configuration. We lost our key inside player in Gudaitis, and the team has not absorb the shock yet, and we are inserting Nunnally and soon we will re-insert Nedovic. It will be a different team, but we are still in control in the Italian league and still in playoff-hunting mode in the EuroLeague”.
