Olimpia’s second half turned the game around: the defense stepped up just as it had in the first quarter, and the offense did what it needed to, moving the ball, attacking the rim, and running on fast breaks to push the team to a convincing 94-86 win in the Italian Cup quarterfinals in Turin. Olimpia dominated the boards (42-27, 19 were grabbed on offense), with Josh Nebo—despite foul trouble thath plagued him especially in the second half—and a great, amazing Ousmane Diop, who unfortunately exited late with a hamstring injury. Shavon Shields dictated the pace (he had 28 points in 25 minutes, shot 10-for-15 from the field, including five threes), while the others followed his lead (Quinn Ellis had seven points, five assists and eight rebounds). The second-half defense changed the game, with Bolmaro (he two memorable blocks) and Shields himself holding off the opposing team’s best scorers, especially Ramsey, who was exceptional in the first half. A great team win, with the exception of a second quarter complicated by the performance of Jahmi’Us Ramsey, after a 10-point lead in the first period and a 48-37 run in the second half. Olimpia hit nine three-pointers against 17, which meant it had to produce an extra effort to win the game, and it did. The semifinals will be on Saturday against Brescia.
