Olimpia took over early and was never threatened by Napoli on its way to a convincing 88-76 win. Olimpia led by as many as 23 points several times against a team that never gave up and kept trying to stay close as much as possible. But Olimpia was too connected defensively when it mattered the most, was able to use the scoring skills of its big men (Johannes Voigtmann had 17 points, 12 in a tone-setting first period) and dominated the boards. On top of it, offensively it was able to share the ball and hit the open man, making 11 threes out of 28 attempts. “It was a good game because they have a lot of offensively gifted players, but we moved the ball, we were good at attacking their zone defense and Shavon Shields was huge tonight on his way to return the player he was before the injury,” Coach Ettore Messina said adding “this is the best news of them all.” Shields scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 26 minutes on the court. Olimpia had six players scoring in double figure and used all of its 12 players.
