Sixteen threes and a dominating defensive gem were the key ingredients in a big 94-68 Olimpia win over Pesaro in Game 1 of the Italian league quarterfinals. Olimpia took over early in the game and never eased up throughout the game. While Billy Baron and Gigi Datome’ hot shooting were crucial and clear, Nicolò Melli set the tone early under the boards and a defensive end of the floor. Olimpia overcame some foul trouble too and the win was never in doubt. Coach Ettore Messina used all his 12 players and limited the minutes of his starters.  Baron scored 19 points and went 5-for-5 from three-point range. Datome was his old self adding 17 points. Shavon Shields also scored in double figure. Voigtmann, Hines and Napier had four assists each while Melli had seven points and six rebounds in a relatively not too busy night for him. Game 2 is scheduled to be played on Monday night in Milan too.
