Olimpia improved enormously since the scrimmage held with Ulm a few days ago as it showed by defeating Gran Canaria with a resounding 91-64 in Cagliari. Not just that: Olimpia also raised its game over the course of the game especially at the defensive end of the floor. At the end of the game it counted 18 steals, produced especially overplaying the passing lanes from outside in. The game was close for one quarter, then Olimpia took over early in the second period after back to back threes made by Shavon Shields. Eventually, the defense held Gran Canaria to just eight points in the entire third quarter. It was reassuring how Olimpia grew within the game. Lorenzo Brown scored his seven points early with the team struggling for the first few minutes (Coach Ettore Messina had to call a quick time-out with Gran Canaria leading 7-0) then involved his teammates first and foremost, had six assists and four steals. Armoni Brooks who was scoreless in the first half, missing all his five first-half shots, got on fire in the second making all of his four threes. He was again all over the floor including converting a thunderous dunk on a break after intercepting a backcourt pass. Olimpia showed a good approach throughout the game even when the line-ups were inevitably uncharacteristic featuring two pure centers or three point men at the same time.
