Against a well-coached, well-prepared and enthusiastic Brindisi team coming off a perfect preseason (10-0), Olimpia needed 20 minutes to find its rhytm, elevate the defensive efficiency and getting away with a spectacular offensive debut, winning 103-92. It was the first time since 1995 that Olimpia scored more than 100 points in the Serie A’s opening night. Olimpia was led by Mike James’ 20 points but six players went in double figure, Vlado Micov scored all his 12 points in the second half, Kaleb Tarczewski made his first five shots, one more player, Christian Burns, had eight points. It was definitely a team effort. Olimpia tried to get away early. Brindisi close the first quarter down by one because of a length of the court basket by Jaremy Chappell. In the second period, Brindisi led by as many as seven points. Olimpia came back and went to the half, one point down. In the third period, Olimpia took control early and never let Brindisi to come back in spite of a solid effort. “I liked the way we passed the ball, how the big men ran the floor, how we established our inside the game that in the future will probably give us more room to operate from the perimeter, I liked that when we took control of the game we didn’t let them attempting a serious comeback”, Coach Pianigiani said. “Although – he finished his examination – we could have done better at the efensive end of the floor in the first half. To get away we had to use Micov aon Adrian Banks early in the third and this is something we shuldn’t be forced to do very often. That’s why eventually we need to elevate the quality from everybody across the roster”.
