Olimpia took control of the Treviso game late in the first period and never let the opponent become threatening again in a 87-63 win. Coach Messina elected not to play Shavon Shields, Zach LeDay was out too, Ousmane Diop also because of flu-like symptoms, but the team didn’t miss a beat. Armoni Brooks had his fourth straight 20+ points game in the Italian league. Early in the second quarter, he had a dunk and two threes in a row, extending the lead to twenty points for the first time. From that point on, Olimpia pretty much controlled the game. Early in the third, Osvaldas Olisevicius, the powerful Treviso forward, scored five consecutive points reducing the gap to 14. Coach Messina spent a time-out and Olimpia responded immediately. The largest lead, several times, was 27 points. While Brooks led the scorers with 22 points, Nico Mannion added 15 (and five assists), Leonardo Totè and Pippo Ricci scored 12. Ricci was particularly effective one more time. He started the game with back-to-back threes nad made two more, finishing with 4-for-6 plus five rebounds. Quinn Ellis was impressive with nine rebounds, too. For the second straight game, Coach Messina put Marko Guduric in the starting line-up. “We realized he had played next to Shields only 12 percent of the time, so we inserted him in the line-up. Playing with Josh Nebo will help too, because he rolls hard and create space on the outside. I think Guduric is in the spotlight for the first time in his career, being scrutinized. In Istanbul, he made two great plays at the end, defended really well with Bolmaro on Shane Larkin and had also five turnovers that are not part of his game. But given the circumstances I’m very optimistic,” Messina said.
