Olimpia got back on track winning 87-57 in Brindisi against a injury-depleted team. The defense set the tone early when the team established its inside game with 12 points scored by the bigs, Alex Poythress, Ismael Kamagate and Nicolò Melli in the first period when the opponent was held at eight points. However the offense sputtered until the third quarter when Stefano Tonut led a 28-point explosion. He intercepted a pass and turned it in a fastbreak dunk then he made two straight threes and destroyed the game for good. His almost personal 10-0 run gave Olimpia it’s 14-point lead that then was extended. In the fourth quarter there was a great sequence by Giordano Bortolani who completed a three-point play and added a three from the corner. Tonut finished the game with 17 points, five players scored in double digit. “The defense was there right from the beginning but we were slow offensively, we had a lot of tension to clean off. In the second half we played a lot more relaxed, we moved the ball well, made good selections and shot well. It wasn’t easy so I’m glad. Obviously Brindisi was influenced by the players missing,” Coach Messina said.
