With a 91-77 win over Varese, Olimpia swept its Supercup qualifying round, with six wins in six games. In the last outing, Olimpia struggled a little bit to find its rhythm, especially in terms of shooting (even from the line), while Varese capitalized on a hot three-point shooting first half. Because of it, Varese built an eight-point lead early in the game and Olimpia had to make a 10-1 run to close the second quarter in order to earn a one-point lead at the half. The second half was different: Olimpia got on fire from the perimeter, mostly with Michael Roll and Davide Moretti. The young Italian sharpshooter went 3-for-3 from the arc and determined the decisive run in the third. Olimpia finished with an impressive 15-for-30 from three-point shooting, but it went 9-for-14 in the second half. “I’m happy, because the players coming off the bench combined for 50 points. They were ready – Coach Ettore Messina said at the end – We struggled a little early, it was the first game for us with no standing implications. The second half was much better, we had more energy and we had good results from our pressing defense.” Shavon Shields led all the scorers with 18, Zach LeDay added 14. Olimpia, who had 22 assists, rested Sergio Rodriguez, Vlado Micov and Kyle Hines.
