Olimpia showed the best version of itself against the hottest team in the Italian league with a commanding 105-90 win. Trapani, coming off six straight wins, hit the ground running, made the fist five shots and built a 11-point lead early the game. But from that point on, it was Olimpia all the way. “The second unit gave us a big lift – Coach Ettore Messina said – Bolmaro’s defense, Tonut, who was unfortunate on a couple of shots but played a great game, Dimitrijevic. Everybody helped.” Olimpia took over in the second quarter, went to the locker room up by three, 50-47, and dominated the third quarter with Shavon Shields and Nikola Mirotic. Again, Mirotic made two consecutive threes in the fourth to keep Trapani at length even with their full court pressing and the hot game provided by Langston Galloway, JD Notae and Amar Alibegovic. However, Trapani never got closer than 10 points and Olimpia led by as many as 19 points. Nikola Mirotic finished the game with 29 points and 39 index rating points. He was all over the floor. Shields added 19. But it was really a great team effort. Olimpia approached a delicate game with a EuroLeague approach in terms of physicality and intensity and took the win home. “For us Diop’s game was very important. When we decide to use one more foreigner guard and one less big man, his impact will be crucial. This is why we need Caruso too,” Messina remarked.
