Olimpia hit the ground running and had a fun night in Desio, defeating Varese 100-73


Olimpia went to Desio to face Varese missing eight players. Tommaso Baldasso was back on the court the same day he returned to the team after the European championships, but Kevin Pangos had to sit out because of a minor injury to his left hand. Shavon Shields was out and so Johannes Voigtmann, who is still competing with his National team. Stefano Tonut, Gigi Datome, Pippo Ricci, Nicolò Melli and Paul Biligha returned to Milan from their National Team duty and then used the rest of the week to rest themselves. It didn’t matter. Olimpia started the game with a 16-0 run despite a time-out promptly called by Varese’s coach Matt Brase after the first 11 unanswered points. 100-73 was the final score. Olimpia shot an impressive 73 percent from two and through its inside game generated open shots that Billy Baron converted on a high clip (he went 4-for-8). Coach Ettore Messina obviously shared the minutes, using also the youngsters Samuele Miccoli and Matteo Todsico, who scored a beautiful reverse lay-up during the fourth quarter. Baldasso made his debut and stayed on the court for more than 16 minutes because Naz Mitrou-Long experienced some foul troubles early in the game. he was a little tired and rusty, but he was generous. Brandon Davies and Deshaun Thomas led the scorerd with 21 points each in less than 20 minutes on the court. They combined to make 16 of 18 of their two-point attempts. Davide Alviti was brilliant too. He was the most used player at 28 minutes and scored 15 points plus he had 4 assists.
