After a six-month hiatus from competitive basketball, Olimpia returned to the floor in Cagliari and edged Sassari 86-82 in the local tournament. It’s been a serious game, with many runs, both ways: Olimpia took the lead for good late in the fourth quarter and benefitted from closing the game with two point-guards on the court in the last four minutes. Sergio Rodriguez and Malcolm Delaney, who scored 18 points while being plagued by foul troubles in the second half, pushed the team over the hump. Then Kevin Punter made the clutch three that closed the game, late. Playing time was distributed among 15 players. Foul troubles forced four different players to be used at the center spot, including Zach LeDay while Kyle Hines managed to finish the game with four fouls. Olimpia will play again versus Venezia in the last tournament day.
