Olimpia finished the energy early in the second quarter and lost its first road EuroLeague game in Barcelona 74-56. Olimpia started the game well, scored in each of the first four possessions with Brandon Davies on fire, 10 points in the first. But after leading 6-0 and 8-2, after closing the first period tied at 21, Olimpia lost any semblance of control in the game gradually going down more and more. The offense was anemic, scoring 8 points in the entire second quarter, three more in the first five minutes of the third, rebounding and turnovers plagued the team all night long. And finally defense was not good enough to save the night. “We played too poorly at both ends of the floor to stand a chance to win. We weren’t patient enough. We forced the first option all night,” Coach Messina said. Olimpia’s record is now 3-2 after playing four road games over the first five games and winning three of them which is still remarkable. With no Shavon Shields and still no Mitrou-Long on top of having some players still far from being in good shape (it was Gigi Datome’s first game in the EuroLeague), Olimpia met a strong contending team and it will have to regroup before next home game against Real Madrid.
