Olimpia bounced back with a thunderous 79-71 win in Istanbul against Fenerbahce. The final score doesn’t reflect the dimension of the win. Milan led basically wire-to-wire, never looked back, never looked in trouble and led by as as many as twenty points at the end of the third quarter, after a Gigi Datome buzzer beating three. In the fourth quarter, Olimpia raised the foot a little early and let Fenerbahce reducing the margin, but the game was never in question. It was a great team effort. Zach LeDay scored 11 points in the first half and closed with 15 plus seven rebounds, he made three threes, Kevin Punter added 13 points, Shavon Shields and Gigi Datome scored 10 points each. But Vlado Micov was instrumental early in the second half to open a bigger lead in an impressive third quarter for the team. Malcolm Delaney injured his left ankle early in the game, but bounced back and led the team, along Sergio Rodriguez, back from a three-game absence. Olimpia made nine threes and forced 19 turnovers, while winning the rebounding battle too. “I think we played a complete game. Our players were very, very disciplined on offense, attacking with patience in the post-ups and with the pick-and-roll and I think our second and third quarters, defensively, were very good. I just want to say this about my team, who played very, very disciplined, focusing. It is not easy to beat Fenerbahce. They are big, experienced and have talent, so for us, it is a huge win,” Coach Ettore Messina said. It’s the fourth road win of the EuroLeague season for Olimpia, who improved to 8-5, and the first in Istanbul since 2014.
