Olimpia won its second road game in the EuroLeague prevailing in Belgrade 80-75 after a very hard-fought battle before 17.000 people and a very hot atmosphere. Olimpia was able to comeback from a slow start and again after going behind by nine early in the fourth quarter, because of a 10-0 Partizan run that looked almost decisive. Instead, right after the timeout called by Coach Messina, Olimpia regained control, made a 7-0 run, and made the game close once more. In the final minutes, Olimpia executed better than Partizan at both ends of the floor. When Dante Exum made a three to regain a four-point lead, Kevin Pangos took over with a three. The defense closed the gates while Shields and Davies made their free throws to build a three-point lead. Pangos at that time played with the clock, timed exactly his drive, and made a huge lay-up that basically ended the game. As a fact, Olimpia held Partizan to 21 second half points, 15 of them scored by Zach LeDay. Shavon Shields led the scorers with 25 points, Pangos led the team down the stretch, but the big win was conquered with a lot of help from a lot of players. Billy Baron was the first to get the team going in the first quarter, Brandon Davies scored 10 clutch points in the second periodo and just to make some examples Stefano Tonut was huge in the few possessions he played with a three to close the first half and some timely defenses later in the game. Johannes Voigtmann had six rebounds, four assists and an impressive +23 of plus/minus over 21 minutes spent on the court. “It was a good win for us on the road against a team that is always very well-organized by Coach Obradovic and plays extremely hard – Coach Ettore Messina said at the end -. We had a very bad start maybe of the atmosphere, maybe because we were cold and maybe because we attacked too much their jump shot instead of going inside. The game changed when we were more physical. We matched their physicality. It was overwhelming at the beginning and when we started to move the ball on offense, when all of my players, who I really want to congratulate, stepped up and showed that they can play in difficult circumstances with personality.”
