Olimpia overcame everything. Injuries, a shorthanded roster, even Arturas Gudaitis’ foul trouble, three of them at the offensive end of the floor, led most of the games and finally won 80-70 over Zalgiris Kaunas. Mike James had another spectacular game adding nine assists to his efficient 20 points. Vlado Micov led the team late in the third and early in the fourth when Zalgiris tried to take over. Dairis Bertans, in his starting tole, scored 17 points killing Kaunas’ defense in the process. Finally, Mindaugas Kuzminskas had an 11-point devastating fourth period. Olimpia showed a lot of grit and determination, played on of the most intense game of the season. It was a playoff-game at sometime. Coach Jasikevicius received a technical foul, Micov too, James and Bertans were called for two flagrant fouls upgraded after reviewing the plays and a probable-record three times a jump ball went to the Zalgiris’ directions. “We had more desire tonight, we talked about it before the game. I didn’t want to know who was playing or resting, who felt well and who was ill. We had to find a way to win to stay where we stayed since Round 1, and we deserved the position. In the end we had some great defensive possessions and we built all together the open shots to close the game out”, Coach Pianigiani said.
