Without Vlado Micov – who needed a rest – and with the batteries low after a tough EuroLeague week, Olimpia was proud enough to find a way to win in Trieste, 77-73, coming back from eight points down in the second half. Olimpia had a great start leading by as many as 12 points but was erratic inside, shooting uncharacteristically bad from close range but controlled the boards and made the right plays down the stretch especially with Curtis Jerrells, Dairis Bertans who scored the go-ahead basket and Andrea Cinciarini who read the defense, and worked for the right players at the end when Gaudaitis shook off a tough night, plagued by an ankle injury, to make some more crucial plays. Olimpia closed the first half of the regular season with a 14-1 club setting record and in the first position. “I’m happy because we were tired, we used different lineups and everybody helped us again – Coach Simone Pianigiani said – It’s been like this for a long time now. My players showed a lot of desire and character, the approach was great then we have been solid enough to stay close and used our ability to read the game and make the right plays at the end, at both ends of the floor”.
