It took 20 minutes to get into some kind of rhythm but in the second half Olimpia took the game against Pistoia over, built a double-digit lead that we never reliquished. Pistoia came back within seven early in the fourth, but Olimpia scored over and over again. At some point, three consecutive three-pointers made by Mirotic, Bortolani and Brooks extended the margin to 20 points. In the end, Olimpia prevailed 95-80. Zach LeDay led the scorers with 24 points, Nikola Mirotic added 18, 14 in the second half, and nine rebounds. But behind the Olimpia’s famous one-two punch, there were the games played by Giordano Bortolani in the first half (he finished with 13 points, 10 in the first) and Armoni Brooks who added 16 points going 4-for-4 from close range. Coach Ettore Messina left the arena after the first half because of a migraine and Mario Fioretti coached the team in the second half and led the press conference. “We didn’t play a good enough defense in the first half and that explains why the game was so close. In the second half, we raised the level a little bit and that allowed us to contro the outcome. When we made our run early in the third, the gae became easier.”
