Game 3 was very different right from the beginning. If Games 1 and 2 were low-scoring affair, Game 3 was played at a higher pace and Olimpia finally dominated it winning 107-79 and taking a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. Game 4 will be played on Saturday in Milan again. Olimpia started the game with an offensive oriented line-up featuring LeDay and Mirotic up front. Following several attempts to take a significant lead, Olimpia built a nine-point margin at the half and then started the third period with.a 7-0 run that essentially closed the game. The lead ballooned over the 30 points threshold several times in the second half.
Pippo Ricci set the tone early with a buzzer beating three to finish the first quarter and proceeded to score 10 quick first half points. Nikola Mirotic and Shavon Shields made five threes in a row to launch Olimpia in the second period. The second half was when Armoni Brooks got into his shooting rhythm and destroyed the game. Olimpia had a historical night shooting 20-for-34 on threes; dominated the boards and had 21 assists. Overall everybody helped. Coach Ettore Messina spent some words for Ousmane Diop “who gave us energy and presence in the middle”.
Shavon Shields led the scorers with 22 points bouncing back from early four trouble. “He played a ferocious game that was contagious,” Coach Messina said. Armoni Brooks added 20 points. Zach LeDay and Nikola Mirotic scored 15 points each. LeDay had also nine rebounds.
