It was an hard fought game, full of runs on both sides, but the last one belonged to Zenit. Olimpia lost 74-70 in St. Petersburg. With Malcolm Delaney and Dinos Mitoglou not available because of injuries, Olimpia found good resources deep into the bench, Pippo Ricci and Jerian Grant’s solid defense, but in the end it was not enough in spite of Sergio Rodriguez colossal 20-point, 6-assist effort. Olimpia led by four at the half, went behind by seven three times in the third quarter and found a way to respond every single time, tying the game up at 60 after three quarters. In the fourth, another defensive masterpiece built a four-point lead because Zenit was held at two points in four minutes. Twice, Olimpia had the shot to extend the lead but failed. “During the last three or four minutes, we missed a couple of shots, we allowed a couple of extra possessions and that was the difference. But we should be proud of the effort,” Coach Messina said. In the end, Olimpia suffered its third loss of the EuroLeague season, but limited the margin to four points.
