It was a well-fought, tough basketball game in Kaunas that Olimpia played with the required intensity and physicality, but came up short losing 105-97 after an overtime. Zalgiris tried to get away several times, but Olimpia responded in every single situation and finally tied it up at 91 with 13 seconds left on a Sergio Rodriguez drive. On the ensuing possession, the defense forced a jump ball with three seconds left that Micov controlled. Unfortunately the overtime went in Zalgiris favor. “I’m disappointed for my players because they played hard, they played really well for some spurts and they came back in the fourth quarter when the defense was effective for some consecutive possessions and the offense didn’t rush shots, we built open shots and made them. At this level you need to create open shots, it’s all you can do. For some reasons, we couldn’t finish the job. However it’s been a game we need to build on it by working hard,” Coach Ettore Messina said. The Coach also pointed out to Kaleb Tarczewski’s game. He had 18 points with 6-for-7 from the field and the only missed shots was a mid-range jumper he had to take. “He gave us some balance between the outside and the inside game,” he said. Keifer Sykes and Drew Crawford combined for 24 points and were very involved during the rally in the fourth quarter. Micov and Rodriguez scored 18 points each. Rodriguez however had to leave the game during the overtime because of a left ankle injury that needs to be re-evaluated soon.
