That was big! Olimpia started the game on a high note and never allowed itself to raise the foot and won convincingly 99-74 over Bayern Munich. Milan had a huge first period, 25-8, led by as many as 25 points in the second quarter before Andreas Obst, the German sharpshooter tried to push his team back in the game with a sequence of impressive, deep, three-point shots. He made four straight three, scored 17 points in the second and helped his Bayern team to reduce the gap to 13 points at halftime. In the third, briefly, Bayern came back within ten, but it wasn’t able to get closer. Shabazz Napier, four points in the first half, had 16 in the second. His 11-point third quarter closed the game off basically. Olimpia won going away in the fourth, sharing minutes, shots, responsibility, energy across the roster. Napier led the scorers with 20 points, Tim Luwawu-Cabarrot added 14. Olimpia shot 63.2 percent from three, dominated the boards. And Shavon Shields was back again and played as a man possessed in the first half. He entered the game, made a fade-away, then a three-point shot. He looks like his true self. “I think we got some really good individual performances. Of course, Shabazz was again very, very good, but everybody else played well. Everybody participated, and the good news is that we had 16 good minutes from Shavon Shields, who looks to be coming close to the real Shavon. I am very happy; we played a good game. Now, we are just focused on one game at a time, and we will see,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Olimpia won its 8th game of the last nine and keep climbing back in the standings although it is probably late for a playoff push. “It was a team effort. A lot of guys came in. We did a lot of things to just try to interrupt Bayern, and we just tried to score the ball as much as we could. Everybody wants to think about the playoffs, but it’s one game at a time,” Shabazz Napier added. Olimpia had another outstanding two-way game by Stefano Tonut. “We are not thinking about the playoffs – he said -. We are thinking about going game by game, for sure. Today, we played another complete game for 40 minutes, and we followed the game plan very well. We are happy for this, but we keep going. We have many players who can play, so everybody has to go game by game.”
