Closing a long week spent on the road, Olimpia found itself mentally and physically drained in Venezia, losing 76-69. Olimpia had a solid approac early in the game, led by as many as 10 points, looking great. But the energy level went down abruptly during the course of the game. Gradually, Olimpia lost effectivensee at both ends of the floor, Venezia was sharp hitting the jumpers and took control of the game in the third quarter. Olimpia didn’t stop competing. It was able to come withing six points and the three to reduce the deficit further late in the game, but didn’t have the mental strenght to complete another comeback. “After a week bouncing all around Europe, fourth game over eight days we didn’t have nothing left. We competed, but we didn’t have enough in the tank to win against a very good Venezia team,” Coach Ettore Messina said. Gigi Datome made his season debut, looking obviously rusty, Kyle Hines was rested and Olimpia had still several injured players, Shavon Shields, Naz Mitrou-Long and Tommaso Baldasso.
