It was a tough 91-84 overtime loss in Munich for Olimpia. After a roller coaster battle with momentum changing hands repeatedly, Olimpia looked in control late in the fourth when two straight three-pointers by Devon Hall and Shavon Shields gave Milan a six-point lead entering in the last minute. “This is when a very good game was marred by two capital sins – Coach Ettore Messina admitted – Up by six we over helped on a drive and allowed a three-pointer when a two was acceptable; then on the last possession we didn’t foul immediately.” With 8.5 seconds left, Sylvain Francisco had the ball at the top of the key. Tonut deflected it, the ball went up for grabs. Serge Ibaka got his hands on it a little before Kyle Hines could take it. He turned around and shot a three that tied the game and forced the overtime. Olimpia was physically and mentally spent. After a couple of minutes the game was Bayern’s. Carsen Edwards scored 11 points in the overtime on his way to a game-high 32 points. “We struggled on him all night long. He is very good coming off screens and they set some good ones. The EuroLeague is a competition where toughness wins games. You have to be physical. In this regard we need to improve”.

The game was a roller coaster. Olimpia led early in the game and in the second quarter finding help from different sources led by as many as eight points. The last part of the second quarter was the bad one. Bayern had a 11-0 run and closed the half up by five on a global 15-2 run capped by Ibaka’s first buzzer beater of the night. “We weren’t aggressive enough, we took the run and we didn’t spend fouls to stop them, to halt their fast breaks,” Messina pointed out. The second half was much better. Bayern led by as many as nine points in the third but Olimpia gradually established its defense. Shavon Shields had another monster night scoring 26 points. Jo Voigtmann had 10 points in the fourth including seven straight to fuel the rally and a three later to take the lead. Then Olimpia looked in control but couldn’t finish the job and had to absorb the second overtime road loss of the season. A very tough one to swallow
